On CNN, he added: “That information comes from his environment, from his family and friends.”

Cox warned that Robinson “is not cooperating” with authorities and that those close to him described him as “radicalized in the dark corners of the Internet.”

The governor explained: “His friends confirmed there was a kind of deep, dark Internet—Reddit culture and other dark places online—where this person was deeply immersed.”

The Transgender Partner in the Investigation

The governor also confirmed that the suspect’s romantic partner, a transgender person, is assisting investigators.

“His roommate was his romantic partner, a man transitioning to a woman,” Cox explained. “I can say this person has been incredibly cooperative; the partner has been very helpful and had no idea this was happening.”

Although some politicians suggested the relationship might be tied to Kirk’s anti-trans stances, authorities insist it is still too early to determine whether that played a role in the attack.
